We have a new Website!

Welcome to our new Website! Yes welcome to our shiny new SMEE website where you can find out about our Society and our activities. Here you’ll be able to learn that we have well equipped workshops with 3 different Milling machines including one that is CNC and numerous lathes, which members are free to use. We are also developing a 3D printing suite with a printers including a Bambu. We also have a grinding shop where one can sharpen lathe tools and milling cutters and also surface grind items. We have an active group of members who regularly use our workshops. Our meeting room is equipped with AV equipment and is used for our meetings usually held on the first Saturday of the month, which for those unable to attend in person, is also attended by distant members via Zoom, so that they can interact with our home audience and the speaker towards the end of the talk. Some talks are also available to members as recordings which can be viewed from this website. We also use the AV equipment during the theory parts of our Training Courses, the practical instruction being carried out on our machines in our workshops, to prepare attendees to carry on at home. We also have WhatsApp groups open to members, currently covering Engine Building, a Digital Group, Workshop Users and Locomotive Builders. There will be more special interest groups like this added in the future no doubt. Members can also use our extensive library where we hold full runs of Model Engineer, Engineering in Miniature and copies of other engineering and model engineering magazines, plus a wide selection of books on the subject which can be signed out on loan if required. SMEE also holds several light hearted auction sales each year, both of members’ surplus items, and also members who for whatever reason are no longer involved in the hobby can sell their items in disposal sales, a service we offer to the relatives of members who have passed on. Anything from sets of castings, completed or unfinished engines to screwdrivers, raw materials, power tools, lathe or milling machine accessories and digital verniers can show up – its always a surprise on the day. There is lots more to see so whether you are new to model engineering or already a member, take a look and enjoy!
